Captain Macaroni and Dr. Cheese

I love these kinds of things, yo.

Haha, I like how everyone could identify the Kraft Mac & Cheese. It’s iconic, after all. I’m surprised that they didn’t rip on the Velveeta, too. Some of these options look really good!

Nostalgia!

We’re getting into temperatures where I need to bring my radio on my runs because my on-ear headphones keep my ears from freezing.

The radio station I listen to, C97.7, does a “90s at Nine” every day at 9 AM. This involves the playing of three songs that have something in common. Often it’s a word in the song title or a genre or an artist.

This morning, the theme was “Disney songs” and the first song up was “A Whole New World” from Aladdin.

I cannot express the MASSIVE nostalgia hit I took when that song started. I hadn’t heard it in so long and it instantly took me back to when my mom and I would watch Aladdin back when I was in elementary school and we lived in our old house in Troy.

It just…it felt good.

What kind of SCAM…?

People are weird, yo.

The key features are great.

  • “Meticulously calibrated magnets in the base mimic the magnetic field of the Earth’s core”
This is why the dinosaurs died out, guys. THEY DIDN’T MAGNETIZE THEIR WATER.
  • “Multi-functional offering 3 cycles to align with your daily rhythms.”
Is this referring to the three eight-hour cycles of our circadian rhythm? If so, WHY DOES MY WATER NEED TO SYNC WITH THAT?
  • “Chromotherapy features radiating a choice of colours”
Take it to a rave party! Be the envy of all those fools who didn’t spend $500 on a water vessel.
  • “Sleek design for a lightweight and ergonomic experience”
Put your H2O in a Nalgene bottle, goddammit! It’s cheaper and has this same feature.

Again, people are weird.

TWEETBALL 2023

It’s my wonderful husband’s birthday today, so what better day for the Twitter-based wrap-up of this year’s baseball season?

Baltimore Swag

So I’m going to count one of my previous marathons as my Baltimore Marathon run (unless I do one tomorrow), so here is said swag from the completion of the virtual Baltimore Marathon!

Shirt:
It’s nice to have one that’s long-sleeved. It’ll be nice in that “too cold for tanktop but too hot for jacket” weather.

Medal:
I had to take a video to demonstrate exactly how cool this medal is.

Done!

BOOST the ROOST

Got the most recent COVID booster! I was actually able to get it on campus this time, which was super convenient. Just scheduled it for 15 minutes after teaching in the morning. I’m writing this around 3 PM and am not having any side effects yet; maybe I’ll finally have a side effect-free shot!

Edit from later: NOPE! Around 8 PM or so, all my muscles and joints started to really hurt (this seems to be my typical side effect), especially the muscles in my torso. Breathing was so freaking painful, haha. The only way I could stop the pain was to just curl up under my heavy blanket and breathe very slowly. Luckily, I fell asleep and was mostly fine when I woke up several hours later.

Woo?

Done!

I officially completed my physical therapy today! Unless my leg really starts hurting again OR I do something else to get wounded, I am free!

I’m actually shocked at how good my leg is feeling. When this first happened, I was afraid that it would be a VERY long time before I could run without pain, let alone do a marathon.

There’s still some discomfort, especially in the mornings, but it’s a TON better than it was.

Shoutout to Brittney from Maximum Potential Physical Therapy! She was really great (and very patient with my lack of flexibility, haha).

Yay Rangers!

I didn’t really know anything about the Rangers before the playoffs, haha, just because the Mets very rarely play them. But they were a fun team to watch (and of course they have Scherzer and deGrom now). Adolis Garcia is great, too; it’s too bad he got injured and wasn’t able to play in this last game.

Spooky Run

So I’m not one to be afraid of the dark or anything like that.

But when it’s 5:30 AM on a cold Halloween morning and you’re out in the part of Bowness Park where there is not a light to be seen save your one little headlight on your running vest, hearing people describe their creepy ghost stories over the radio is NOT WHAT YOU NEED AT THAT MOMENT.

Imagine being in the woods in complete darkness except for a tiny little light in front of you and you hear someone describe that as a child, they would often see a man standing outside their bedroom window at their family’s summer cabin, peering in with unblinking eyes, but when they finally told their parents about this mysterious man, their parents informed them that their bedroom was on the second floor.

I got goosebumps at these stories, yo.

At least they made me run faster.

Hi, excuse me, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS

One of my absolute favorite songs of all time PLUS AN ORCHESTRA????

Those low strings, nnnf I love them.

Edit: screw it, have playlist, this is amazing. Electronic music + symphony = basically everything I could ever ask for.

Edit again: I can’t stop listening to this, send help.

This Song Angers Me

There aren’t too many songs that I’ve come across that actively make me angry when I hear them. But this song makes me want to yeet my portable radio into the Bow.

Part of the reason I hate it is because it’s overplayed. But the main reason I hate it is because of that weird-ass inflection/accent that Sophie Simmons puts on some of the words.

(And no, I don’t care that she’s Gene Simmons’ daughter, FIGHT ME.)

“I remember we were too broke to have a cuuaaar”

“Hitchhiking down the highway to get to the supermoaurket stouuuar”

“Buying beer with uuuoi-dees that don’t even look like ouuuys”

And that super airy “mine” just enrages me for some reason.

Yes, I’m being petty. No, I don’t care.

Hardest Geezer

So I’ve been meaning to post about Russ Cook, a British dude who has committed himself to running the entire north-south length of Africa.

Nate and I have watched several of his videos documenting this journey and I now follow him on Twitter. I can’t imagine running the distances he does every single day.

It’s super impressive and I hope he’s able to get to his goal!

Go check him out.

Pasta Every Day?

I mean, if you say so. I’m not going to argue with you.

(This book looks wonderful.)

What am I supposed to do with my toenails?

What are these?

What even are these?

Look at that middle one. It’s got layers.

D I S G U S T I N G.

Ames Window

So here’s a cool optical illusion for you:

I feel like I’ve seen this before, but maybe not. I can get the pen illusion to break pretty easily, but maybe that’s because I’m super sleep deprived and my brain is being weird. What about you?

IT’S WINTER, YOU SONS OF BITCHES

TIME FOR SNOW

TIME FOR COLD

TIME FOR ME TO REGRET THE FACT THAT I AM A LIZARD

It’s Mahjongg, not Yourjongg, get your own!

Back when I was a kid/teen, I had this computer game called Moraff’s Maximum Mahjongg. It was just a bunch of different versions of solitary mahjongg. My mom and I used to play it all the time. I’m sure I still have the CD somewhere, but the odds of it working are like zero.

Anyway, I’ve been really wanting to play it lately, and after a bunch of searching online, I was able to find a version that actually worked and got it installed!

Even the main menu brings back the memories.

SO MANY MEMORIES

The music, also, is something I’ve still got deep in my brain.

Yay!

More Marathon Swag

I ran another marathon today, so I’m counting this one for the virtual Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Distance n’ such:

Medal:

Isn’t that a pretty medal?

Frasier Collab

So as you’ve probably noticed from some of the posts on this blog, I love the idea of animation collabs (examples: this one from the Clock Crew, When I Was Done Dying, the “steamed hams” clip from The Simpsons).

I also love “Frasier.”

So I obviously really enjoyed this:

The voice acting is great, too.

They need to do more episodes, haha.

Shoots and Latters

I haven’t pic-bombed you recently, have I?

GET PIC-BOMBED!!!!!!! ! !!  1

Pass!

Awwww yeah!

I’m pretty sure I know which question I missed because I overthought it, haha.

Now the next step is to wait for them to contact me (they have to review my test and the recording of me taking it to be sure I wasn’t cheating, haha) so that I can take my official oath.

Super exciting!

Wormed

I don’t know why DJ Earworm has just been dropping random mashups without any sort of announcement, but I’m here for it.

Nostalgia, anyone?

Also, there were a good number of songs in here that I didn’t know were 90s songs, haha.

New Tasty

So my new favorite food combo is baba ghanoush and cauliflower. Specifically, this baba ghanoush:

It’s SO FREAKING GOOD. I’ve been having practically a whole head of cauliflower and three tablespoons of baba every day. Super tasty. You should try it!

Edit: ugh, they changed it and now it has this absolutely vomit-inducing chunky texture. Am sad.

Hans Zimmer, You Magnificent Bastard

What the hell is THIS

Ugh, this makes the song so much better. Dan Smith has a great voice and everything is better with an orchestral backing. Fight me.

Ugh.

Ran a marathon this morning while feeling really sick the entire time.

Got done, walked back up our hill, and promptly puked in a bush. Then had to visit the toilet once I got home.

Yeah, super fun. I haven’t felt sick like that in a long time. My upper abdomen was really hurting for an hour or so afterward, but now I feel 100% again.

Weird.
