Hdnsk

This song doesn’t come up on shuffle very often, but when it does, I usually repeat it two or three times. I always forget just how chillingly beautiful it is.

Lissssen

Hahahahaha, so I have a playlist of songs that I like to listen to when I’m trying to concentrate. They’re all lyric free, pretty chill, and usually do a good job helping me focus.

But I guess I must have accidentally added this song at some point, ‘cause it came up in the playlist shuffle and I lost my shit.

I’ve posted about this before, but it was so freaking unexpected that I couldn’t stop laughing.

Party all the time.

Backstreet’s Back, Alright?!

The 90s vibes are real.

That dancing, though. Seriously bringing me back to 4th/5th grade when boy bands like this were super in. I still remember my friends and I arguing over whether NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys were better.

(NSYNC is totally better.)

This song is legit, though.

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and they’re like, “do you have a food handling permit? This seems unsanitary.”

I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Super 80s.

Soooooooooongs

Okay, so I know I’ve still got like a whole year and a half to go in my Decade of Music project, but I’m starting to get real excited about giving y’all the big final summary of the ten year project. THIS SHALL INCLUDE:

  • Favorite songs (freaking obviously)
  • Favorite songs per year
  • Favorite music videos
  • Weirdest songs
  • Weirdest music videos
  • Stats on star ratings, genres, song length, artists, and pretty much everything else you could think of.

Sorry, I’m just really excited for it.

END BLOG!

Kanye, u ok?

This is legit part of a song. Wiki has the best description: West appears in the second half, rapping idiosyncratic, nonsensical phrases based around the words “poop”, “scoop”, and “whoop”, after which the song abruptly ends.

YouTube comments also provide a great deal of insight and analysis.

  • I have A S C E N D E D
  • This low key scares the shit out of me
  • P O O P P O O P
  • I hate the scary FAR RIGHT message of these new tracks
  • Tupac who?
  • I came
  • Test: what is Pythagoras Theorem
    Me:
  • is this a real song??

The best.

Edit: Hahahahaha

Passion Pit Live?

Hahaha, look at these nerds, I love it.

That screw up at the beginning makes it even more endearing. AND I LOVE THE BELLS.

Edit: apparently they (Passion Pit) make fun of this performance all the time and say it’s the worst they’ve ever done.

Ugh, woah.

This is the most anxiety-producing song I’ve ever heard.

It’s a good song and there’s nothing specific regarding the lyrics that suggests it would be such an anxiety-producing song, but holy hell, every time I listen to it I get that “I’m going to go puke in the toilet” type of anxiety that I always used to get before tests.

Does anyone else get a feeling of anxiousness from this song? I mean, I’ve primed you for it now, of course, but I’m curious if it’s just me or if it’s this song.

Psst…

I. Fucking. Love. Coldplay.

This is beautiful, oh my god.

If they ever go on tour again and are anywhere near Calgary, I will get a ticket. I don’t care about price.

FIVE STAR FIVE STAR FIVE STAR

God, that chorus. It’s pure joy. I love it.

Awesome music video, too.

Holy craps!

This needs its own post because OH MY GOD SO GOOD:

So. Good.

PostModern Jukebox

Have you ever heard of Postmodern Jukebox? If not, STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND CHECK OUT THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL NOW!

I have had their vintage bluegrass hoedown-style cover of “Anaconda” stuck in my head ever since I stumbled upon it this afternoon.

I also love their covers of “Timber” (1950s doo wop), “Wiggle” (1920s broadway), and “Don’t You Worry Child” (“Great Gatsby” style).

Edit: OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST

This is so good. It has such a different mood than the original.

Clipster Tripster

Hahaha, what in the hell is this?

Clippy gets trippy and has an existential crisis in 90’s Land.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA POOP

This is very interesting. Do you like music? Do you like weird artsy stuff? Watch this.

MuSiC vIdEoS

Yo.

I was looking through last year’s music and realized that there were a few cool, interesting, or meaningful music videos that I can’t get out of my head. I figured I’d share them with you today, since I have nothing else to blog about.

Unpopular Opinion:

Mr. Brightside is not The Killers’ best song. Their best song is Run for Cover, hands down. Before Run for Cover came out, their best song was When You Were Young.

Sorry, just wanted to say that.

?!????!??!?

HOW

HOW IN THE HELL can this guy’s voice sound so freaking good live?

It’s not fair. But it’s so beautiful.

Claudia’s 365 Days of Music: Year 8 – A Review

Holy crapples, it’s the eighth year of this music project. I’d have to say that 2017 has been the best year for music thus far, so let’s GET DOWN TO IT BITCHES and go for the end of the year music review.

Total songs: 365
Total time: 24 hours and 29 minutes
Total size: 2.54 GB
Mean song length: 4:02.25

The Five Stars
Listed in order of acquisition!
Infectious by Tobu
Running Away by The Royal Foundry
Run for Cover by The Killers
Life by Tobu
Golden Dandelions by Barns Courtney

The five most beautiful/touching songs of the year:
Planet Earth II Suite by Hans Zimmer
Jupiter from “The Planets” for 5 Pianos by The 5 Browns
Desert Symphony by The Piano Guys
Beautiful Calgary by Jaimie Stewart
Paradis Perdus by Christine and the Queens

The Overall Top Five
Running Away by The Royal Foundry
What can I even say about this song? This song is perfection. PERFECTION. I heard it on an Alberta Energy YouTube ad and knew I had to have it. That SYNTH. That CHORUS. NNNNNF I LOVE ALL OF IT

Infectious by Tobu
There is so much energy and forward momentum in this song. It puts me in a walking mood, which is always a good indication that I really like a song. It also WHOMPS your eardrums when you play it loud enough, which is fantastic.

Golden Dandelions by Barns Courtney
I originally had this at number four behind Run for Cover, but I changed it just at the last minute because I can’t get enough of this song right now. There’s something otherworldly about his voice and the tone of this song that’s very unique. And catchy. And sing-along-able.

Run for Cover by The Killers
I mentioned this when I first downloaded this song in July, but there’s such an odd mood to this song that makes it so appealing. It’s got this like frantic, anxious urgency behind the lyrics that’s really hard to describe (“frantic, anxious urgency” doesn’t quite do it), but that’s really relatable somehow. I dig it.

Life by Tobu
Tobu and his energy-filled songs, yo. This one’s not nearly at the level of Infectious, but I love the way he layers the different components of his songs so that they build to an awesome mix at the end. Life is a really good example of that done very well.

YEAR NINE COMETH

Christmas Music

Why hello there, fine human beings. It’s that Christmas-y time of year, I suppose, so let’s fill one of these worthless blog posts with a list. ‘Cause lists are fun.

Here are Christmas songs* ranked from favorite to least favorite, according to me (who else?). Some have comments. Some don’t. Deal with it.

So let’s rankity-rank-rank these bad boys.

Carol of the Bells
Carol of the Bells is fantastic. I don’t know why I like it so much, but I do. It was always my favorite song to play whenever we played Christmas music in band.

Jingle Bell Rock
This is such a chill, relaxing, Christmas-y song. I dig it.

Sleigh Ride
This is another one I like because of band. It’s such a fun song to play and is another quintessential Christmas song. Also brass.

Feliz Navidad
Yay, this song makes me happy. Upbeat, but also pretty chill. Unless you’re one of those people who screams the “I WANNA WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS” parts. Which we did in band, ‘cause you know, band geeks.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

Silver Bells
Another band song!

Joy to the World

Christmas at Ground Zero
If the Weird Al Christmas song isn’t near the top of your list, what are you doing with your life?

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

My Favorite Things
I don’t quite know how this became a Christmas song, but it is, and I like it, so there ya go.

A Holly Jolly Christmas

O Come, All Ye Faithful

Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy
I heard this in a Superstore last year and thought it was super cute.

Jingle Bells

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Winter Wonderland

Deck the Halls

Up on the Housetop

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Christmas Don’t Be Late
I’m just going to put this here.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
NOT AS CUTE AS SANTA LOOKED A LOT LIKE DADDY

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
This song reminds me of my dad, because it was on the Christmas CD he always played while we opened presents.

Blue Christmas
Christmas Elvis > Regular Elvis. Also, reminds me of this.

Frosty the Snowman
FRIENDS DIE AND LIFE SUCKS

O Holy Night
Bored

Silent Night
BORED

White Christmas
This gives me flashbacks to Christmas with my dad, where he would always force me to watch White Christmas. I’m so done with that movie, yo.

Little Drummer Boy

I’ll Be Home for Christmas
NO GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD FFFFFFFFFFFF

*This list is limited to the songs I can remember at this moment, so yeah, keep that in mind.

IT’S HERE IT’S HERE IT’S HERE

So DJ Earworm was a little later with this year’s United State of Pop, but man, it was worth the wait.

This one is really good. One of my favorites and definitely the best since 2014.

MORE MUSIC SORRY

This is really good. I’ve listened to it about 30 times already.

Is it a Five Star? …maaaayyyybe.
Maybe.

Edit: Yes. Yes it is.

Oh. Oh my.

I need this song in my life.

(Edit: and on my Five-Star list.)

OK Print

This one definitely gets more impressive as it goes on. I don’t even know how you start to plan something like this.

OK Go is awesome.

This Song is Ruining My Chances of Winning NaNoWriMo

Me: Okay, brain, we’re almost to the end of the month, but you still have a lot of words to go. Let’s get serious and get this shit done, okay?

Brain: RA-RA-RASPUTIN, LOVER OF THE RUSSIAN QUEEN…THERE WAS A CAT THAT REALLY WAS GONE

Ugh.

GET THIS MAN A GRAMMY

Best thing I’ve ever seen.
