eine kleine buttmusik

YO!

I know I’ve been bitching about this year being super slow for music (which it is, especially compared to last year), but there have been several good songs thus far. And since I haven’t shared music in a while, have some ear candy!

I heard this on the radio and it was instant love. It’s got kind of an old school feel to it.

I didn’t like this one at first, but it’s a four-star now.

Beautiful song; Ed Sheeran is awesome.

This was an iTunes freebie!

Okay, that’s all.

Billie Jean is not my bottle

DUDE this is cool. It’s actually quite soothing. Check out their channel!

Ooooooooh I like this

I may or may not have watched this 15 times in a row.

That guy behind Ingrid’s right shoulder (and featured at 2:14)? Yikes. Hot.

Dammit, Coldplay…

This freaking group, man. This song is beautifullllllll.

There’s something really familiar about it for some reason, but I don’t know why.

INSTA-LOVE.

The Sleepyhead Remixes are Making a Comeback!

“Making a comeback” in the sense that I haven’t downloaded any in quite some time.

And yeah, there’s only one “remix” on here, but screw it!

If his obscenely beautiful voice doesn’t make you cry, there’s something wrong with you.

Haha, unexpected mashup at the end there. Cool.

WHAAAAAAAAAT THE HEEEEEEEEELL

Holy Jesus crackers, I love this.

Impossible Music

Specifically, a type of music called Black MIDI. Black MIDI is named as such because the idea is to include as many notes as possible into a short little arrangement. Making a score of such an arrangement would be such a befuddlement of notes and accidentals and other such things that the staff would be just a block of black ink—hence, Black MIDI.

Also, it would be physically impossible to play “by hand.”

Example of such a thing:

(Note: this may glitch out near the middle, depending on the speed of your compy)

It’s actually kind of cool-sounding, huh?

The Cowardly Average-Sized Toaster Oven is the Brave Little Toaster’s Forgotten Half-Brother

Woah, Coldplay. Woah.

Crank this up and sit in a dark room.
This reminds me of Muse’s Madness in the “this is by one of my favorite groups but doesn’t sound at all like them but it’s even more magnificent because of that” sense.
Apparently there are a lot of mixed feelings about this song, but I really like it. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.

Also: it’s Anosmia Awareness Day today! Go hug a non-smeller and check out this blog run by someone who has anosmia.

Zounds

I haven’t given you any new music in 2014 yet, have I?

I’LL FIX IT!

(Waaaaaaaay better than the original)

Claudia’s 365 Days of Music: Year 4 – A Review

It’s year four! I think this was the best year yet as far as this project goes. Let’s get to it!

Total songs: 365
Total time: 24 hours, 18 minutes, and 28 seconds
Total size: 2.69 GB
Mean song length: 4:17.4

The Five Stars
Listed in order of acquisition!
Best of All Possible Worlds by Bourgeois Tagg
Gold by Owl City
One O Six (A.N.D.Y. Remix) by Jupiter
I Love It (feat. Charli XCX) by Icona Pop
Doin’ It Right by Daft Punk
Chocolate by The 1975
Wake Me Up by Avicii
Mirrors (Radio Edit) by Justin Timberlake
Hey Brother by Avicii
Pompeii by Bastille
United State of Pop (Living the Fantasy) by DJ Earworm

The five most beautiful/touching songs of the year:
Allegri – Miserere mei, Deus by Géza Pécsi, József Gregor & Liszt Ferenc Kamarazenekar
Alleluia by Eric Whitacre
Cajun Folk Songs: La Belle et le Capitaine by Frank Ticheli (yay Ticheli!)
O Vos Omnes by Paul Mealor
Warning Sign by Coldplay

The Overall Top Five
Doin’ It Right – Daft Punk
Preeeeeetty sure this song is perfection. I love how simple and repetitive it is. That’s what makes it GREAT. Plus, the tempo is just right. Go find and awesome pair of speakers (or headphones) and crank this up.

One O Six (A.N.D.Y. Remix) – Jupiter
This is a very “Claudia” song. That’s really all I can say about it.

Chocolate – The 1975
I didn’t like this song too much when I first got it—probably because I didn’t think the vocals fit the music—but it grew on me. Also, this was the iTunes freebie offered on Leibniz’ birthday, so I’m reminded of him every time I listen to it. ;)

Mirrors (Radio Edit) – Justin Timberlake
THOSE OPENING NOTES ARE SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL NNNNNNNNNNNNF.
I like the lyrics to this song for some reason. Not sure why. I also love how Justin still has that “boy band” sound to him.

Pompeii – Bastille
I really, really like Dan Smith’s voice, especially in the chorus. This is another song whose lyrics I actually pay attention to. There’s almost a euphoric feeling to it even though it’s titled “Pompeii” and is apparently inspired by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Now, want some pie charts? Yeah, I know you do!

END! Bring it, 2014.

United State of Pop 2013

Alright, so ever since I’ve started this “download a new song everyday” thing, I’ve made my the last download of the year be DJ Earworm’s United State of Pop mashup for that particular year.

I plan to do the same thing this year. However, this year’s mashup is so freaking good that I’ve decided to give it its own blog post. Behold!

2009’s mashup has been my favorite since it came out, but I honestly think this one’s better. The video’s pretty awesome, too.

My favorite parts are 2:03 (I love that chord, whatever that is) and everything past 4:20.

Some Songs

Today was weird.
Have some songs I can’t get out of my head.

If I had to pick a song that was “me”…

…it’d have to be this.

I don’t even know why. But it speaks to me on a genetic level.

The Bayou Breakdown Appreciation Post

This song has been the only song I’ve been able to write to for a solid week and a half now (except the version I’ve got is much faster). The more I listen to it, the more I like it (or at least, the more I like the positive association between it and “holy crap I’m actually getting work done!”).

For those readers who weren’t in concert band this spring (aka all of you), we played this and it was awesome.

I HAVE NO LIFE LA LA LA LA

I was reading about the Hubble Space Telescope last night.

Then Taylor Swift came on shuffle.

And then this happened this afternoon.

I Knew You Were Hubble (sung to Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble)
Once upon a time in 1990
We sent you into space to show us what we couldn’t see
From here on earth, from here on earth, from here on earth
At first there was a snag: your mirror was misplaced
But with several quick repairs we saw the galaxies you faced
With clarity, with clarity, with clarity

And your first images had us all in awe
When we realized all the beauty that you saw

‘Cause I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Space so diverse, oh
I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Now we’re picturing our universe
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble

Nebulae alive with purples, reds, and greens
Our wonder begs for more, and you give us the means
To satisfy these needs, to satisfy these needs, to satisfy these needs
And I guess you’re booked up with professionals’ requests
But some of those demands end up resulting in your best
Photography, photography, photography

Like the time you stared into one part of space
And your resulting Deep Field put us humans in our place, yeah!

I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Space so diverse, oh
I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Now we’re picturing our universe
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble

And after 20 years in 2010
You’re still doing your job, and well, by bringing awe to all of man, yeah

I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Space so diverse, oh
I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Of the vast cosmos, oh
Showed us new vistas with some shutter clicks
Now we’re picturing our universe
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble
Oh, oh, Hubble, Hubble, Hubble

I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Hubble, Hubble, Hubble
I knew you were Hubble when you took pics
Hubble, Hubble, Hubble

Can you blame me, though? I mean seriously. How many things rhyme with “Hubble”?

Every once and awhile I just find Family Guy obscenely funny (this blog has nothing to do with Family Guy, just an observation)

This is…actually pretty good. I heard the first like fifteen seconds and was like “NOOOOOOOO they be ruinin’ mah current fave song!” but then it got snazzy.

Also, Doin’ It Right is now my third most-played song.

Freaking Daft Punk.

Do squared and cubed functions believe in higher powers?

What is this nonsense, huh, Daft Punk?

Good lord, instant favorite. I’m going to have to kick something else off my “Top 50” playlist so that this can go on it.

Ear Food

Here are my favorite “I listen to this when I’m sad” songs. I’ve posted some of these before, but I’m doing it again. Because I’m very, very sad today.

Hey, remember back when my blogs were good?

Me neither.

I may have mentioned this video on here before, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never posted it or really talked about it. And I re-discovered it the other day, so here you go.

This nifty little song is called Prisecolinensinenciousol. Written by Italian Adriano Celentano, the song’s lyrics are total gibberish designed to sound like American English.

Catchy, ain’t it? I remember one spring when Nick and I would talk to each other in fake French we actually convinced some dude at Hastings that we were really speaking French. We’re bad people, oui?

Well this is beautiful

Sit and enjoy.

I’m telling you now that this week’s blogs are going to suck (I mean, even more than usual) because I’ve got two tests and no free time and no sanity left for any sort of coherent blog posts. Apologies in advance. Maybe this weekend I’ll make a drawing for y’all.

Uh…bye.

Claudia’s 366 Days of Music: Year 3 – A Review

This was a damn good year for music. So without further ado, let’s get to it!

Total songs: 366 (leap year!)
Total time: 24 hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds
Total size: 2.53 GB
Mean song length: 3:59.28 (VERY close to the previous two years’ means)
First song: Stand Behind the Music by Anjulie
Last song: United State of Pop 2012 by DJ Earworm

The Five Stars
The final list for the year; listed in alphabetical rather than acquisition order because of the death of Vaio II.
(Far From) Home by Tiga
Chocolate Disco by Perfume
Class of 1985 by Alex Rooks
Death Sentence Lost! (Coldplay vs. Dethklok) by …And Sushi! Productions
Let it Go by Dragonette
Madness by Muse
Paradise (Gabe Flaherty Remix) originally by Coldplay
Some Nights by Fun.
Take a Walk by Passion Pit
The Night Out (Madeon Remix) by Martin Solveig
This Is So Good (Radio Edit) by Ehrencrona

Yes, there were a lot this year. Like I said: damn good year for music. I seriously recommend listening to all the songs listed above.

Here are the five most beautiful/touching songs of the year. Listen and get emotional, yo.
Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor) by John Murphy
Surface of the Sun by John Murphy
O Superman by Laurie Anderson
Peponi by The Piano Guys feat. Alex Boye
The Legend of Ashitaka Theme (End Credits) by Joe Hisaishi (anyone else think this would be an amazing song to play in concert band?)

The Overall Top Five
Paradise (Gabe Flaherty Remix) – Coldplay
Nnnnnnnnnnnnfff, this song. Paradise was this year’s version of Sleepyhead in that there were many remixes/mashups/alternate versions of the song downloaded. But this version? Holy crap. It actually has more plays than Sleepyhead as of my writing this (though that’s mainly because all my playcounts got reset at the beginning of October).

Madness – Muse
I think I nearly bludgeoned my eardrums to death with this song, as it practically begs to be cranked to 11 and then repeated half a dozen times. I’m liking Muse more and more these days; the fact that this song sounds so unlike all their other stuff thus far made me like both it and them much more.

Death Sentence Lost! (Coldplay vs. Dethklok) – …And Sushi! Productions
Dethklok? Yes! Colplay? YES! Mashed together?! HOLY CRAP! I still maintain that this is an incredibly soothing song; I listen to it when I’m stressed out. I think one of the coolest things I’m getting out of this project are mashups of songs that don’t sound like they’d mesh well but in actuality are quite perfect together (another example from last year: TiK ToK Together, a mashup of Ke$ha and The Beatles).

(Far From) Home – Tiga
The baseline of the chorus for this song makes me want to make sweet love to sound waves. This is another “bludgeoned your eardrums” song. It’s also short, so that actually kind of forces you to put this on repeat so you can get an adequate high from it.

Some Nights – Fun.
I discovered this song about three weeks before it really hit big and all the stations started playing it (haha, hipster much?); but actually, I’m glad it got pretty popular. I like being at the rec center and randomly hearing this song over the radio. Jazzes me up.

Now. Are you ready for some PIE CHARTS? First is the breakdown of the total 366 songs by genre, second is the percent of total plays by genre.

jkjk

kkkk

Here’s to next year and more awesome tunes!

Hey look, music

Well, I was going to do this on the 300th day of the year just to do it on an “even” day, but I totally forgot about it (It was the 26th of this month). So I’ll do it now.

Ignore this if you’re sick of hearing about my musical tastes.

As you know, I recently lost my music ratings and playcounts that have been adding up since 2006. Sad times! So I had to redo everything when I moved my music to Vaio III.

I’m really selective about which songs get five stars in iTunes. Regardless of the continual growth of my music library due to my 365 Songs project, I only allow myself to give 50 songs the rating of five stars.

So I figured I might as well put my newly-revamped top 50 list in case anyone out there was looking for some good (in my opinion) music. Songs are linked to a YouTube video for a watch/listen/both, if anyone cares to check any of these out.

MY EARS

Guys. This deserves its own blog. Because that freaking beat is NNNNNNNNNFFF.

Damn you, Muse.

Damn you.

I can’t stop listening to this. This is perfection. Five stars.
