PUT IT IN THE TOENAIL BAG!

So I lost another toenail today!

Look at this horror show:

Now my foot looks like this:

And I have a baggie dedicated to my old toenails, because I’m that kind of weirdo.

(Sorry, I know this is super gross.)

HAHAHAHA

I accidentally made this in PHOTOMASH and I can’t stop laughing.

Clefairy got into the vodka and now he’s having issues.

Fog Town USA

Have some creepy fog.

That’s all I’ve got today, sorry. I’m not in Vancouver getting ready for the Coldplay concert so everything sucks.

How To Lose Friends and De-Influence People:

Make spaghetti but use lasagna noodles instead of spaghetti noodles.
Make lasagna but use spaghetti noodles instead of lasagna noodles.

That’s my profound thought for the day.

I hate everything.

An Eventful Day

Today involved:

  • A migraine upon waking up (always fun!!!!)
  • A TON of smoke in the air and, along with it, a very smoky run this morning. I tried wearing a mask for part of it but running in a mask is freaking hard, yo
  • The first day of classes which, for me, just involved ASHA (or standing around while Rob introduced ASHA, as I’m teaching next semester and he’s taking charge of this semester)
  • An at-home vet check-up for Pepper (just because taking her to the vet seemed to really stress her out)

I hope this isn’t indicative of how the rest of the semester will go.

Edit from mid-October: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

BURN IT DOWN

British Columbia is ON FIRE!

Spokane is ON FIRE!

But let’s pretend they’re not and check out the fact that I walked/ran the distance of the Appalachian Trail.

(It’s a lie, I earned this on the 19th, but didn’t sync until the 20th.)

HAIR

This is probably a 9” x 9” square of hair. This is what emerged when I used my thinning scissors.

Keep in mind that it had only been a month since I last used these scissors (I had cut my hair normally in the meantime.)

Keep in mind that I still have my really short hair.

Also, upon the exodus of this giant mop of hair, the back of my hair was still thick enough for my comb to get caught in it.

I have thick hair, is what I’m saying.

Today Sucks.

Leg hurts.

I gotta do stuff and I don’t wanna do stuff.

I’m feeling angry and frustrated about other stuff.

I got freaking DUMPED ON by a storm when I was walking home.

UGH.

Yo Dawg, I Herd U Like French

So I put some French synonyms in your French definitions so you can learn French while you learn French.

Anyway.

This is a new type of Duolingo exercise, and I really like it. You’re getting your current knowledge of French tested at the same time you’re learning new words. I hope there are a lot more exercises like this!

Some People Need to Hear It

If every other post you make on Facebook is one asking people to Venmo you money because you can’t afford groceries for you and your gaggle of spawn…

…maybe you should stop making spawn?

Just a thought.

Back to Calgary

So for various reasons, I’m leaving Moscow several days early.

Because why should I get to stay here the full time I was hoping to stay here?

(Sorry, both of the main reasons I’m heading back are legit and important, but I’m feeling frustrated and bitter right now. I just want to hang out here with my mom, why is that so hard to do?)

It’s disappointing, really

Does anyone wear masks here anymore? I don’t think I’ve seen a single masked person except for myself and my mom.

That’s…that’s kind of sad.

Gettin’ Mugged

Why the hell does Moscow feel like a swamp right now? This kind of mugginess isn’t normal, is it? I don’t remember it being this muggy in the summers when I lived here, but I may just not be used to it because Calgary is like the driest city ever.

UGH.

OUCH

Okay, so good news first: today was absolutely FANTASTIC weather for running. I did a marathon and it felt like my typical 16-mile run. Super easy. Super relaxing.

Now the bad news: at mile 23 of said marathon run, I totally bit it and tore up my knees, shoulder, and hand. Not sure exactly what happened – I think I just lost my equilibrium – I was just suddenly skidding along the pavement, haha. Luckily I was starting to go up a hill, so it wasn’t too bad. But I’m not sure what was worse: the family riding their bikes who saw me and asked if I was okay (super kind of them, but also super embarrassing) or the fact that I still had three miles to run and had to do it with a very bloody knee and a road rash shoulder.

Pics or it didn’t happen, you say?

(These were taken on Tuesday after I took the initial bandages off)

Killer road rash.

I don’t know how I managed to get my shoulder so badly, but I did. The funny thing is that my OTHER shoulder is the one that hurts and that didn’t touch the ground at all.

Ignore the bandage residue. Also ignore the other scars. Also ignore how FREAKING DEFORMED my leg looks at this angle.

Fun times!

Visibility

Um

In other words, “screw you, anosmics!”

Bro, milk tastes fine to me up until it actually has clumps in it. Like, that’s the only way I can tell if milk has gone bad: it has clumps in it. And I’m sure it reaches an actual unsafe level of badness before the clumps even appear.

So this is a really dumb idea. Like, I know there aren’t that many of us compared to people with other sensory issues, but we’re out there.

And we don’t like old milk.

TWO THINGS!

Item One: I reached my year-long streak with French on DuoLingo! I’m really enjoying it. Duo definitely helped with the vocab when I took that French class last semester; hopefully it’ll help with the next one as well.

Item Two: I am now officially signed up for the 2024 Calgary Marathon’s ultra marathon!

Time to freak out, hahaha.

Non-Blurred Lines (not a reference to the horrible song, I promise)

So I’ve noticed that I have these really weird lines on the backs of my hands. I know everyone has lines on their hands, obviously (which is why whenever I try to search Google for this I get no useful results because they’re all like “PALM READ THE BACK OF YOUR HAND LOL” or “HOW TO GET RID OF WRINKLES ON HANDS LOL”), but these are weird.

They are very straight, distinct, clear lines that do not follow the general patterns of the lines on the backs of my hands. There are like four or five of them at a time (they’re not consistent) and they look very out of place compared to the “natural” lines.

And while they’re really easy to see in person, they’re hard to capture on camera. So here’s a video of two of them:

Edit: and here are two pictures that actually ended up turning out okay:

Does anyone else have these?

I Love the Clouds Here

Look at this cloud exploding over the horizon of the U of C. How freaking cool is that?

I am DISGUSTING. This is DISGUSTING.

Remember those early 2000s (?) commercials for that toenail fungus medicine where the little animated fungus lifted up a toenail and crawled underneath?

Edit: LAMISIL! Yeah, this son of a bitch:

Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you…my toenail can basically pull this same move now. OBSERVE!

THIS IS WHAT DISTANCE DOES TO YOU

YA LIKE SMOKE????

The air quality when I got up to run this morning:

The air quality at the end of my run (about 2.5 hours later):

Yeah, the wildfire smoke blew in QUICKLY. Look at this post-apocalyptic nonsense.

Ugh.

A Name’s a Name

Unless it sucks.

The most popular US baby names last year were…underwhelming.

THE BOYZ
In order:

  • Liam
  • Noah
  • Oliver
  • James
  • Elijah
  • William
  • Henry
  • Lucas
  • Benjamin
  • Theodore

I really like the name Benjamin, and seeing Theodore on there is cool. Noah is okay. I HATE the name Liam, and hasn’t Lucas been in the top 10 for like 5,000 years now?

THE GULLZ

  • Olivia
  • Emma
  • Charlotte
  • Amelia
  • Sophia
  • Isabella
  • Ava
  • Mia
  • Evelyn
  • Luna

Ugh. They’re not bad, but…

We need some cooler names, yo.

So Alberta is on fire

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT’S FIRE SEASON!

I already hate summer and it’s the beginning of May.

Welcome to hell!
