Twisted Christmas

This is the time of year where I want to hunker down in my room, turn the overhead lights off and the Christmas lights on, and play through this wonderfully ridiculous Quake map:

I remember playing this when we lived on Tamarack, which was…4th grade? I distinctly recall switching between this and the “Santa Tracker” website on Christmas eve, haha.

Man, I miss those days.

HUNKA HUNKA BURNIN’ BLOG

I just re-discovered this remix and listened to it approximately 30 times in a row.

A banger.

The Manhole

Cyan, Inc., the company that gave us the wonderfully whimsical Cosmic Osmo (which I played constantly as a child), Myst (which I owned but never played) and Riven (which I also never played), also gave us this odd little game in 1988:

This is actually not the original game; this is the CD-ROM Masterpiece Edition, which is the one I had as a kid. I remember enjoying this game quite a bit, but watching this playthrough, some of it actually looks kind of terrifying.

Flashback

I randomly thought about this today, so now it’s a blog post.

Deal with it.

The Recamán Sequence

This is super cool, yo.

Baseball is Insane

This is absolutely crazy, haha.

How long did it take Jomboy to break this whole thing down?

The Demented Cartoon Movie!

I’m pretty sure I’ve posted about this somewhere way back in the blog archives, but it randomly showed up in my “for you” on YouTube and it brought back SO MANY memories from junior high/high school. I used to watch this all the time and longed to have the skills/patience in Flash to make anything even half as long.

That “hmmmmmmmmmm” sound still goes through my head to this day.

DankPods

I found this guy a while back and he’s great. This is one of his best ones.

Calling the manual “Manuel” and screaming about that giant AirPod speaker were fantastic.

Antarctica

One of the best presents I received as a kid was National Geographic’s three VHS set of “Antarctica: Life in the Freezer,” narrated by David Attenborough. As you know if you’ve read this blog, I used to be OBSESSED with Antarctica (and still kind of am), so I watched the hell out of those tapes again and again and again.

I have a DVD of it now, but I just stumbled upon a YouTube playlist of a few clips from the show, so here they are for your enjoyment.

Yeah, I have this basically memorized still, haha.

Flight

Y’all, this was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. It’s kind of got E.T. vibes, but is vastly superior because E.T. was horrifying and terrible. This is engaging and fun.

Anyone else remember this one?

Okay okay okay okay OKAY

I know I bring this song up approximately yearly on this blog, but JEEBUS.

It’s just perfection. This whole soundtrack is perfection, but this song is the pinnacle.

Horner and his TUBULAR BELLS, man.

I think the best part of this song is that absolute PERFECT miniscule but noticeable pause in the sound right at the main crescendo. Right at 6:12 in the above video.

I don’t know how many times they had to record this to get that precious little microsecond of silence in there, but it is stunning.

UGH.

(The movie itself is really good too, haha.)

That is all.

LAWL

It’s 4 AM and I’m losing my mind over this, hahahaha.

Cool? Creepy?

Kinda both.

I wonder how much work it was to 1) make those and 2) train people to use them so that they looked and acted real.

I also love the random shots of chaos and running in between everything else, haha.

Ozzie’s World

OH MY GOD I REMEMBER THIS GAME

I played this a LOT, hahaha. I remember playing it when we lived out in Troy.

Claudia’s Fake Radio Station from 1999

As I’ve mentioned on here multiple times, I was OBSESSED with my mom’s camcorder when I was a kid/pre-teen and was always making stupid videos, fake TV shows, and the like.

But before the camcorder came the tape recorder, and JESUS CHRIST it was the same sort of obsession. I remember having a tape player/recorder when I was really young (back when we lived in Troy, so like six or seven years old?) and it had this little microphone thingy attached by a spiral cord. I remember doing all sorts of interviews and other weird stuff with it.

Fast forward to the late ‘90s (1999 to be exact) and I had a fancier tape recorder but the same old desire to do weird-ass fake radio stuff with it. I recorded an entire tape of me doing commercials, interviews, news segments, and a decent amount of music I recorded from an old Monopoly game I had on CD.

Wanna hear it?

(Side 1 content starts around 0:17)
(Monopoly music on Side 2 stops around 4:27)

The “ZFAT 101” comes from the “Z-Fun 106.1” radio station in Moscow.

At least I’m not singing along with the Monopoly music. There’s a tape of me from fifth grade on which I distinctly remember singing about Rogaine to one of those songs on side 2.

Yes, there’s a commercial like every two minutes. It’s infinitely more entertaining than me going all improv on my electronic keyboard two-thirds of the way through side 1, though.

It’s shocking I didn’t go into journalism or mass media or film or something like that given all this nonsense I did as a kid.

(It’s actually not that shocking; I became much more introverted as I got older and also realized I was ugly and untalented and so had absolutely no chance of success in any of those fields.)

PENultimate

I absolutely love people who have niche hobbies or interests and decide to share those things with the world.

I also love how everyone in the comments are either fellow pen enthusiasts or are people who just stumbled upon this video but were enthralled by it and watched the review.

Also, the dude has a Padres City Connect hat in the background…dig it.

Oh my GOD

It’s been a while since I’ve watched any Metalocalypse and I forgot how absolutely insane that show is, hahaha.

I don’t know if these clips are more hilarious with or without context.

Another Simpsons Follow-Up

So last month I mentioned a few lines from The Simpsons that I think about fairly frequently, right?

Well, here are two from Futurama.

“Grunka, lunka, dunkity, darmed guards…”
“SHUT THE HELL UP!”

And:

My only regret is…that I have…boneitis!”

Y’all remember this video?

This was like peak 2008 humor.

I know there were a lot of dubs of this scene, but this is the best one, haha.

Bri’ish

Hahaha, this is great:

The best comment: “It’s weird seeing a mix of animation with real-life Englishmen green-screened into the cartoon.”

High School Band Throwback

This song came up on shuffle earlier today, so we gotta blog about it:

I don’t have any other songs composed by Michael Kamen, but this one is fantastic. I remember we played this in high school and I really enjoyed playing it. I can’t remember if this was one of the songs we played for critique at Disneyland or if that was the Pirates of the Caribbean song. Or something else.

I WASN’T BLOGGING YET, SO THERE ARE NO CLEAR MEMORIES OF ANYTHING

LOVE the chords at 1:21, OOF.

Have I posted this on here before?

I don’t know. And I don’t care. Today has sucked and I have no blog content.

BYE

Get The Fact(orials)

Ugh, the Gamma Function.

He is a wild child, but he is extremely cool.

What’s even wilder is that you can actually model some probabilities using this thing.

Isn’t that just…wild?

I love this kind of stuff.

World Reference 3D Atlas ‘98

Bro, I was JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS the other day and suddenly a playthrough of it showed up in my YouTube suggestions. Google, you’re scary.

Did anyone else have this CD?

My brain right now:

Does it make any sense?

No?

NEITHER DOES MY BRAIN
