Well, that was a dream.
Warnings: gun violence, I guess?
So I saved Pearl Jam in my dream last night.
Lemme ‘splain. There was a decent amount of stuff leading up to the part of the dream that I can remember, but basically the main thing was that I was living in a dorm-type thing on campus, except it wasn’t really much of a building but rather a set of five or so huge cube rooms. The cubes were lined up in a row and standing on these elevated platforms. They were probably 8’ x 8’ x 8’, I’d say, and the weirdest things about them were a) they were each just one big room with no dividers, bathrooms, or kitchens, b) there was a door connecting each pair of cubes together, and c) they were completely open on the front side of the cube. Like, no door, no windows…just no wall on that front side of the cube.
But I lived in one. Specifically, I lived in the one furthest to the right. I had a bed and a suitcase in it, ‘cause why not.
Anyway, one evening as it is getting dark, the cube next to mine is suddenly hosting a Pearl Jam concert. There are thousands of people standing in front of the elevated set of cubes and Pearl Jam is in the cube next to mine, getting ready to do a performance.
I want to go home for the weekend, so I go to my cube and start packing my suitcase to leave. I feel a little guilty that I’m doing so during the start of the concert, since everything else is dark except for the Pearl Jam cube and my cube as I pack up my stuff. But I can’t seem to pack very quickly, so I’m there quite a while. During my packing, I keep thinking how easy it would be for someone to “break in” to one of the cubes and steal the occupant’s stuff.
Just when I’m about done, I hear a whole bunch of screaming coming from the audience and the cube next to me, and I somehow become aware of the fact that someone has jumped up into the Pearl Jam cube and is brandishing a gun, threatening to shoot everyone in the band.
The gunman hasn’t noticed that I’m in the cube next to them, so I think that maybe I can sneak up on him and ambush him. But as I’m starting to sneak around the front of the cube to get to Pearl Jam’s cube, I hear the gunman open the door between our two cubes and enter my cube.
So now I’m thinking, “now’s my chance. Start walking towards him and if he shoots you, pretend that it doesn’t hurt.” I turn around and walk towards him, and he points the gun at me and shoots me right in the chest.
Pretend it doesn’t hurt. Keep walking towards him.
He shoots again.
Pretend it doesn’t hurt. Keep walking towards him.
He shoots a third time. But my plan is working; he’s obviously freaked out that the bullets are having no effect on me, and he runs back into the Pearl Jam cube, where he is promptly tackled by security and is arrested.
Then the voice actors from The Simpsons show up and thank me for saving Pearl Jam, ‘cause they’re all huge fans of the band.
Also, three close-range gunshot wounds to the chest? No big deal, I’m fine.
Odd news.
Canadian League Baseball: Week 4 Summary
Here are the updated current standings. No one is really pulling ahead at this point, but it’s very early in the season still.

Na na naaaaa na…
Na na naaaaa na…
Hey, hey, hey…
What the fuck is this.
WANNA LEARN ABOUT PUPILS?
Basically, pupil shape is at least somewhat tied to whether an animal is more of a (grazing) prey animal or more of a predator. The article talks a lot about goats and sheep, and goats and sheep are pretty cool, so if you’re not into pupils, maybe you’re into goats and sheep.
(Sorry, I haven’t slept in like three days)
Have another song, FIGHT ME
This song has a lot of nostalgia for me for some reason. I know we played it in Concert Band with Torrey, but I swear we also played it in high school.
Anyway. This group sounds beautiful, yo. They’re the ones that did that Sound of Silence cover I posted on March 2nd.
FUD
I haven’t gawked at food for a while.
So let’s do that.
WELCOME TO URF
I watched this because YouTube kept recommending it to me. Now I can’t get it out of my head.
Seriously, I was singing it to myself during my entire freaking walk today. The animation’s pretty neat-o, too.
I don’t know if I’d heard of Lil Dicky before this, but I’ll have to check out more of his stuff.
Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if “what the fuck, I’m a clam?!!?” was an actual thing that Lil Jon has said in the past.
Canadian League Baseball: Week 3 Summary
Here are the updated current standings. Go Calgary! Haha.

Tomato Hatred Level: 10/10
I love this guy’s energy and I can relate to his hatred of tomatoes.
Nate, you might not want to watch this one. Lots of tomato violence.
Edit: just realized I blogged about another video of this guy’s last year. It’s good to see that he’s learned nothing about psi, haha.
Yikes
The Chernobyl disaster has always been something that’s been really interesting to me. It’s absolutely terrifying what happened, but the fact that it could have been much worse is even more terrifying.
I’ve heard good things about HBO’s mini-series, but I’ve never really seen one and don’t know how accurate they are. But the trailer is sufficiently terrifying, for sure.
This is the best documentary I’ve seen on it so far:
HEART WALK
Check out that resting heart rate, yo.

And people say walking isn’t good cardio. It is if you walk fast enough and long enough.
(Yes, I know fitness tracker-based heart monitors aren’t the most accurate, but I suspect it’s accurate within a range. And I actually did calculate it the “manual” way (taking my pulse) a little bit after I took this picture (after my heart rate had calmed down a little; I’d just gone up the stairs) and it was 49, so.
Hoy
I miss everything about undergrad…except for finals.
Like, the regular during-semester exams were okay. I never really minded those too much. But finals? I don’t know if it was because I was always taking 7-9 classes per semester and thus had a good amount of finals packed into a 5-day window, but they were always way more stress than everything else.
Which makes sense, of course, but still.
Though having to stand around and invigilate a three-hour final is not that much fun, either. At least nothing too chaotic happened.
A
I am so over this freaking week, so have some dumb pictures. I don’t even care anymore.

Canadian League Baseball: Week 2 Summary
Here are the updated current standings.

Other news: Simulation Syndergaard has already been injured like three times (just like the real 2017?), so he’s sitting right now.
Tune in next Sunday!
Today, I did something I’ve never done before:
I sized down in shoes.
Ya, I know. DAFUQ.
My current Kinvaras are worn down as hell (because, you know, it’s been a month and a half since I bought them) so I dragged Nate down to the Running Room on our walk to get a new pair.
They didn’t have my size 9 in the Kinvara 9’s and I was kind of scared to try the new Kinvara 10’s, but the lady brought me a size 8.5 in the Kinvara 9’s and they seemed to fit fine.
So I got ‘em.
I’m going to know every employee in that store by the end of the year, I’m sure.
The End
So this semester is finally over.
It’s been a long one.
I mean yeah, I guess there’s still finals, but that’s a minute detail at this point.
Successfully teaching that calculus course meant a lot to me. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it at the start of the year, but I ended up doing it.
I hope I did Leibniz proud. I know that sounds like a really weird thing to say, but it means a lot to me, okay? It just…it just does.
Oh.
I really like this song.
I don’t know what it is with me lately, but I’ve been getting super emotional over music. This song? It’s not sad, it’s not depressing, it’s not particularly frisson-inducing. But I checked it out after hearing a YouTube ad for it and I’m freaking bawling over it.
(I blame the Sennheisers)
Also, the sound of this band + the lead singer’s voice really reminds me of Suede.
Tell me that’s not the same sound/voice.
Holy crap, I missed baseball.
The season just started like two weeks ago and it’s already pretty wild.
Also this:

EXCITING
(Also, poor Marlins)
Canadian League Baseball: Week 1 Summary
My baseball simulation is super fun, so you’re going to get to here all about it every Sunday. Here are the current standings at the beginning of the season:

It’s still very early!
Kill
Ooooh, I like it.
Like many of The Killers’ songs, this is one that gives that nice painful tug on your heart with its yearning tone. The orchestra makes it so much better.
I’m also a sucker for orchestral covers of anything, so.
