Aw Hail No!
Haha, so we got caught in a flash hailstorm on our way back from watching the new Spider Man movie. Observe:
We had just passed a bus stop when the hail started, otherwise we would have had to run a bit to find cover. The hail doesn’t look super big in the video, but some of them were probably dime-sized, I’d say. It sounds so loud ‘cause it was hitting the glass roof of the bus shelter.
I was yelling at Nate ‘cause that was the only way he could hear me.
LOOK AT THIS FREAKING PIZZA

HOW GOOD DOES THAT LOOK???
That is all.
Life Has Many Doors, Ed Boy!
Shock of shocks, it’s another music-related post.
But guys, this song is amazing and the music video is one of the most beautiful music videos I’ve seen. Check it out.
Hey Now, You’re an All Star
(Did I use that title last year?)
I love the All Star Game, yo. I don’t remember if Nate and I watched it the first few years we watched baseball together, but I know we watched it last year. This was after they’d removed the rule that the winning league gets home field advantage in the World Series, which meant that the players could take things a little less seriously and make it more fun. They mic’d up some of the players, which is what they did this year as well.
It’s cool to see so many talented players all at once. Super fun! Hooray for McNeil, Alonso, and deGrom!
FLJASDLFAJVLF
Have I mentioned lately that I’m burnt out and just want to go home?
I’m burnt out and just want to go home.
Canadian League Baseball: Week 14 Summary

Eventful week!
Simulation Curtis Granderson got his 300th home run.
Simulation Jake Arrieta and Simulation Rich Hill both pitched complete game shutouts.
The All-Star Game happened! The National League beat the Canadian League 5-3.
Click Clack I was Taken Aback
I’ve been trying to resist.
I’ve been trying to convince myself that there is no practical need for this.

But then we went to Best Buy last week and I got it anyway.
It lights up and has colors, yo. How could I resist?
It’s also super clicky-clicky, which badass.
Edit: DUDE I MADE IT A RAVE PARTY MACHINE AND NOW I CAN NEVER GO BACK TO A REGULAR KEYBOARD
(The intense color of the light is not captured on this video; the colors are SUPER BRIGHT.)
Kistler
When I was young (first/second grade? Sometime in the Troy era) I remember watching quite a bit of Mark Kistler on public television. Mark was (and still is!) an artist who taught drawing skills aimed at kids. I still remember his little “Draw! Draw! Draw!” chant he’d do whenever he’d draw a bunch of lines or some other series of shapes/figures. I always thought he was super cool.
I also had a few of his books!
Anyway. Not sure what the heck made me remember him today, but I did and so there ya go.
UTAHHHH
It sounds like the next state being added to American Truck Simulator is Utah.
That’s got to mean they’ll do Idaho at some point. I bet they’ll do Colorado too pretty soon. I’m not sure which one they’ll do first (or if they’ll do something like Texas instead), but I think it’s a good sign that Idaho will happen.
THAT WOULD BE SO COOL
That’s Why They Call Me Mr. Fahrenheit
I really like this explanation of why Fahrenheit is a good “understandable” temperature scale, even though its set points of 0 and 100 are kinda wonky. It’s practical and intuitive for human “day-to-day” use. It’s also more precise.
I love me a kilogram, but I’ll be damned if I ever support Celsius.
(And yes, I know I take this stuff way too seriously.)
Leibniz Day 2019
It’s that time of the year again: LEIBNIZ DAY!
My favorite day of the year, not going to lie.
I never get to read anymore ‘cause I’m either walking or working, so I didn’t the chance to re-read Antognazza’s beautiful biography of him this year.
But I think about him constantly, so I guess that counts for something?
(Haha, I’m obsessive, I know).
Edit: MIKA IS BACK, YO
This is my song download for the day, because what better day is there to download a hot, sexy summer jam than Leibniz Day?
Canadian League Baseball: Week 13 Summary
I had seven consecutive sub-14-minute miles on my walk today.
I AM MADE OF SPEED
Here is baseball.

Hahaha, what the hell, Victoria?

And Simulation Cespedes is hurt. Because of course he is.
TIME TO RETURN FROM THE CABIN
WHY IS EVERY MAJOR ROAD IN CALGARY UNDER CONSTRUCTION I MEAN SERIOUSLY IS THAT NECESSARY
It’s a long drive back from the cabin. I used to love long trips (whether they were in cars, planes, whatever), but now I’m not a big fan of them. I still really dig airports, though; not sure what that’s all about.
I also really liked staying in that hotel in Seattle when my layover was so long that they kicked me out of the airport.
Random hotel nostalgia time?
Anyway. This blog did not go where I thought it would, but I can’t remember what else I was going to say, so there you go.
Sorry, I’m stressed out about the upcoming semester and I already miss my mom.
Edit: IT’S ALLERGY SEASON! TIME TO SNOT LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW
TIME TO GO TO THE CABIN
We’re all leaving in a few minutes to head down to Nate’s parents’ cabin. I’m pretty sure my mom is going to hide somewhere out there so that she doesn’t have to go back to work next week.
Maybe there will be kayaking.
There will definitely be hot dogs.
We will also put the rain shroud on our tent before it starts raining this time.
ZOOM
I’ve been running (okay, jogging) miles 12 and 13 on my walks on and off for the past week or so, and it’s felt FANTASTIC. I don’t feel comfortable running more than that because I have my backpack with me and running with the backpack is super awkward, but I feel like if I were to try it without the backpack, it would feel even better.
I love running, but I’ve been so wary of doing it ever since I hurt my leg (which has been like two years ago now, haha). But these past few little mini-runs? No pain at all. I hardly even think about the injury.
That makes me want to run more.
That makes me feel like if I were to train (VERY SLOWLY) for it, I could do the Calgary Marathon next year. I used to be able to do 10k runs without any real issues (again, the only reason I haven’t run that far lately is ‘cause of TEH LEG), and I’m sure I could build my confidence back up to that and then do some actual training to get to the marathon level.
This is all assuming I don’t hurt my leg again. And that I don’t hurt anything else.
Hopefully I won’t!
Canadian League Baseball: Week 12 Summary

Vroom! Calgary’s still holding on.
Hahaha, oh dear
This game makes me appreciate the relative realism built into ETS and ATS.
Maddie, does watching this guy’s mad pro bus skillz give you heart palpitations?
ERUPTION
YO, NERDS!
So I finally went to the doctor to see about the crazy arm rashes I’ve been getting, and it sounds like I have polymorphous light eruption.
It sounds super cool, but it basically means I’m allergic/sensitive to UV light. It’s a delayed reaction where you’re fine when you’re out in the sun but after the sun exposure occurs, then your immune system starts going “OH SHIT” and reacts to it, causing rough-looking rashes/blisters and lots and lots of itching.
Here’s more:
So, you know, no big deal.
I’m just out in the sun for four hours to get my 15-mile walk in every day.
N o p r o b l e m .
And no, sunscreen doesn’t prevent it. I’ll either have to wear long sleeves or suffer the itch/redness. But for some people it seems to “flare” at the beginning of spring/summer when there’s more sun, but if they let it blister up and then heal, it “hardens” the skin against it until next spring/summer. We’ve been having a lot of cloudy/rainy days this week and my rash is almost gone, so maybe my arms will have healed enough by the time it gets super sunny again. WHO KNOWS, IT’S AN ADVENTURE.
Edit: well it’s mid-July now and the “eruptions” have definitely diminished a lot. So I either don’t have this at all and my arms were just being spazzes, or, like some people, I flared up at the first major spring exposures to sunlight and then “got used to it.” Odd news.
Final Destination: Calculus
Annnnnnnd SPRING 2019 MATH 249 has ended!
They took their final exam today. It was a three-hour long exam, and honestly, I’d rather be writing the exam than standing around like a turd for three hours waiting for everyone to finish.
Anyway, this class was a lot more enjoyable to teach the second time around, probably because I wasn’t frantically trying to make all the notes/labs/exams/etc. as the course progressed.
