*SCREECHES IN TENURE TRACK*
I submitted my tenure track renewal package today. If it gets approved, I’ll have an extra two years to apply for tenure beyond next August.
I don’t plan on delaying my tenure application past next August, but you never know what weird stuff could happen to require a delay.
So it’s a “just in case” sort of thing.
Anyway.
YOU get a migraine! And YOU get a migraine! And YOU and YOU and YOU and
Hey brain, you wanna chill with these? Especially with the semester starting soon?
(Please?)
New frames, but…
So I picked out some new glasses frames last time I was at the eye doctor because my oldest pair of frames is ready to snap in half and my other oldest pair is kind of my backup.
I picked out a pair of frames while wearing a mask, ‘cause I refuse to take my mask off indoors just yet.
So I picked out a pair of frames that looked good on me while wearing a mask. Turns out these frames look absolutely horrible on me when I’m not wearing a mask.
Because of course they do.
So I guess I’ll keep wearing the other frames at home and on Zoom meetings and just wear these new ones whenever I have to wear a mask.
Which is pretty much all the time if I’m not out walking/running or at home, so I guess they’ll get good use.
Edit: Pic with frames + mask.

My brain right now:
Does it make any sense?
No?
NEITHER DOES MY BRAIN
NEW MUSE, BITCHES
So Muse came out with a new album and it’s sick. Favorites:
Will of the People
Compliance
You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween
And my absolute favorite:
The energy of this song is fire. I think Bellamy has my second favorite male voice (y’all know Chris Martin is my #1 by MILES) and this song really features his amazing range. I love how high his voice can go.
Also, this song would be FANTASTIC in Rock Band.
Edit: k so apparently people don’t like this album? Really? I think it’s great!
A Simpsons Follow-Up
So remember a few days ago when I posted a Simpsons line that’s frequently in my head? Another one is from that episode where Apu stopped working at the Kwik-E-Mart and he and the Simpsons sang the “Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?” song and Homer screws up the rhyme.
“Apu: Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart?
Marge: Their floors are sticky-mart
Lisa: They made dad sicky-mart
Bart: Let’s hurl a bricky-mart
Homer: The Kwik-E-Mart is real – DOH!”
Homer’s line is another one that is in my head quite often.
Anyway.
Pepper!
We’ve had our sweet Pepper cat for a year now!
She’s calmed down a little bit, haha, but she’s still a wild child most of the time. She’s so smart. She’s probably the smartest cat I’ve ever seen. I hope she is able to stay curious and playful and healthy for a long, long time!
THE ASS IS UP
What’s the ASS? It’s the giant Air Supported Structure that they built over a football field in Montgomery to turn it into a seasonal field.
It’s hard to capture how big it really is in pictures, but it does cover the WHOLE football field.

And it’s supposedly going to withstand the wind/hail/snow/chaos weather that Calgary gets.
Coolio?
Dr. Vasudevan
So we got the sad and rather sudden news today that one of our faculty members, Dr. Kris Vasudevan, passed away.
Dr. Vasudevan was always very kind and very talkative. He and I talked about migraines a lot, haha, because I have them and he studied them. I knew his wife was having health trouble, but I had no idea he was sick (or if he just died suddenly).
Very sad.
What is one Simpsons line that you quote frequently in your head?
Here’s one of mine.
There are others, but this is one of the top ones.
That is all.
MI-to-the-GRAINE
Heyyyyyyyyyyyy guess what?
ANOTHER MIGRAINE
I have no idea why I’m getting so many of these lately, but here we are.
Maybe I’m just freaking out about the upcoming semester and this is how my body is dealing with that.
Ugh.
I am not a movie person
But these are two movies I’d love to see.
I found Lonesome Dove on YouTube and OMG
It’s incredibly true to the book, which means it’s great. The water moccasin scene was terrifying, just like it was in the book. I’m just to the point where Lorena gets captured by Blue Duck, but I’m excited to watch the rest of it.
WOO!
Can I just crawl into some hole until the next two years are over?
What is the closest grocery store to your house?
Safeway.
When was the last time you colored with crayons?
Man, it’s been a while. Colored pencils are another story, but I can’t remember the last time I used crayons.
Have you ever owned a plant? What was it?
Yes! I have a succulent right now. His name is Captain Planet.
Have you met anyone famous?
Nope.
What was the worst injury you have ever had?
The most dangerous/life-threatening was probably that concussion I had when I was a kid. Which I then followed up with another concussion, haha. So yeah, that.
At thanksgiving dinner, what is the first thing you go for?
Mashed potatoes!
When you were a kid, who was your best pal?
Anastasia.
Do you have any special talents?
I can touch my tongue to my nose. I can imitate voices. I can recite whole movies from memory.
Have you ever been to a nursing home?
I worked at a nursing home one summer. Kinda.
What kind of job did your mom have when you were growing up?
I don’t remember the technical name for it, but she worked at the U of I and did graphic design stuff and helped with my dad’s surveys that he was always sending out.
Have you ever known anyone that’s been on tv, including you?
Probably.
What was the most interesting animal you have seen in the wild?
A wolf?
What holiday do you enjoy the most?
Christmas.
What was the first video game you ever played?
Either Cosmic Osmo or Doom.
What is the one thing you own, that if it got lost, you would be bummed?
My iPod, because I don’t currently have my miles backed up yet.
Do you have a favorite breakfast item?
Scrambled eggs!
What do you find yourself buying all the time?
Broccoli. Clothes.
When was the last time you got a real letter in the mail?
Christmas, haha.
Do you have a most prized piece of jewelry?
My wedding ring!
Do you own any board games?
Yes!
What chore seems the most daunting right now?
Hanging up my clothes. I hate hanging up my clothes.
Were you born in the state you live in?
I don’t even live in a state right now, bro!
Have you ever lived in a house that has been broken into?
Not that I’m aware of.
What is your favorite cheese?
Colby Jack!
Who do you know that watches the most sports?
My mom!
I GOT SHOT
BY A NEEDLE
IN THE ARM
Now I am COVID boosted. We’ll see what the side effects are for this one. Can’t be worse than the second shot, yo. That was rough.
MICRO
Want a nice quick summary of the micronutrients important in the human body? Check this video out!
(I’m mostly posting this so that I can come back to it later myself, haha)
Time for Early Morning Running!
So it’s that time of year again when I’m going to have to start getting up obnoxiously early to go running. Specifically, I’m getting up at 4 AM so that I can start my run at 4:30.
Pros:
- No one is out at that time of day and it’s GREAT
- I’m done with my run and back home by around 9 AM, which means I’ve got the whole rest of the day to do my nonsense
- It’s nice and cool out (relatively)
Cons:
- I HATE GOING TO BED EARLY
- I HATE GETTING UP EARLY
- Seriously, it takes so much effort to get up that early for me. Like…4 AM is my natural bedtime.
- As the year progresses, it will start staying darker longer in the morning, which is always super depressing
BLAAAAAAH
Last Day of Classes!
I’m freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
At least until the actual fall semester starts, haha. Having spring off was REALLY nice, though. I’m not sure which of the two shorter semesters is better for teaching. Spring is nice because then you have a really long break until Fall, but Summer is nice because then you get a break right after the Winter semester and there is NO ONE on campus in the Summer.
Meh.
I Met the Sky
What did YOU do today?
The Bird is Unhinged
This is exactly the level of terror that the Duolingo owl inspires. Love it.
I also love how Duolingo itself has fully embraced the “this owl is a psychopath stalker and will not hesitate to use violence” in its own marketing campaign.
