That’s FOUR TIMES NOW

FOUR TIMES this silly series about talking planets has made me cry.

I’m totally not obsessed at all, I promise.

Their animation of the collision between Theia and Proto-Earth was very well done. Very emotional.

Edit: Theia arc! Watch it, nerds.

MOON FAMILY!

So Saturn already held the record in the Solar System for the most moons at 146, but a set of 128 new satellites discovered by a team of astronomers back in 2023 have officially been classified as moons! Saturn now has 274 recognized moons, which is pretty insane. Most of these new moons are extremely small, but still.

Also, I’m just going to leave this here.

(Yes, it’s a SolarBalls episode; yes, I’m still wildly obsessed; yes, it’s relevant because SolarBalls Saturn would probably lose his mind over an additional 128 new moon names to memorize.)

Edit: in searching for a relevant article to this story, I found this NASA article from 1995 talking about the discovery of two to four new Saturnian moon candidates. Back then, the total confirmed number of moons was only 18. Pretty wild!

More SolarBalls. SORRY NOT SORRY

They’ve released the Planet X Arc video, which, like the Moon Revolution Arc video, is a compilation of all the videos related to the Planet X story.

It’s three hours long.

This is, as most things are on my blog, mostly for my own reference, but if I’ve gotten any of you hooked on this series, here it is for you as well:

Edit: Okay, so I watched the whole thing while I was painting today (I take a long time to paint, haha) and this story is so much better compiled like this compared to all the little videos one by one. I originally considered the Moon Revolution arc better, but that’s because that story had just concluded by the time I discovered the series and by the time I got to those videos, they had already released the compilation. But I think I like this arc even more now that all the related vids are put together like this.

SOLARCARDS!

Y’all, my SolarCards are here and they look amazing! Check it out:

Basic deck

Booster pack

My two favorites!

A sun, dwarf planet, and moon card

A few of the anomaly cards

All the planets have a “god” edition

Even the backs are pretty!

I ended up getting most of the cards, but not all of them; maybe I’ll buy a few more booster packs to see if I can get the ones I’m missing.

I don’t think y’all understand…

Remember back in 2008 when I fell fast and hard in love with Metalocalypse and it became my absolute favorite show for like a decade and a half?

That’s what’s going on with SolarBalls right now. I mean, come on: a show about talking celestial bodies, all with distinct personalities? That’s right up my alley.

I am so freaking invested in it, haha. The main sources of enjoyment are, of course, the characters and the story. But I also love thinking about all the behind the scenes work with the animation and voice acting. That just makes it so much better.

Just…aslsdhfafhdfalfsdhghg I love it.

Kick!

So this campaign will probably be well over by the time I get my blogs posted, but I’mma talk about it anyway!

SolarBalls, the YouTube series that I have become unabashedly obsessed with over the past several months, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for SolarCards, a trading card game based on the series.

(Just so you get an idea of how popular this series is, by the way, they launched their campaign on October 5 with a goal of $10,000 and they’re already 345% funded. It’s been two days.)

Anyway, they also released a video of the rocky planets demonstrating how to play, which is pretty freaking cute:

(Sorry, I’m beyond obsessed with this series, haha)

HOLD UP

You mean to tell me that all the male characters in SolarBalls are voiced by THE SAME PERSON??

That is some ridiculous talent. I mean, listen to this:

All of those voices are the same dude. He also does like a dozen or more moons, too. And Astrodude. And Houston.

I’m a sucker for great voice acting, and this is great voice acting. Like I’ve said in the past, there have been at least three times when this freaking series about talking planets has made me cry, and all three have been due in large part to the amazing voice acting.

And now I love this series even more, hahaha.

Viiiiiiiiiiiiiine Throwback

Remember when I said I wasn’t going to post any more SolarBalls stuff?

I LIED, it’s SolarBalls characters as Vines. How can I resist?

It doesn’t help that some of these are my favorite Vines.

This is the last time I’ll mention it, I swear

Okay, so I’m finally caught up on the old SolarBalls videos to get to the Moon Revolution (which they have conveniently uploaded as a full movie-length video, splicing all the relevant smaller videos together) and OH MY GOD THIS IS GOOD STORYTELLING.

Like, I’m not even kidding when I say that the plot, character development, and pacing is better than like 90% of modern movies and TV shows (especially TV shows). They also do a really good job of taking a crap ton of characters and splitting them up so that we follow smaller numbers of them at a time before they all get together again at some point (this was my favorite aspect of movies like Civil War and Infinity War – I loved how they dealt with so many characters). And like I’ve said before, the animation and voice acting are incredible.

So I’ll just mention it one more time and then shut up about it: watch SolarBalls, y’all.

Just let me have my talking planets

I am 100% invested in SolarBalls now, haha.

I haven’t fallen this quickly into an obsession in a long time, and because I have no one I can rave to about it, y’all get in on the blog.

I love the characters. They’re all enjoyable and have their own distinct personalities and quirks.

I love the voice acting. It’s top notch and better than what you hear in many animated TV shows out there.

I love the animation. It’s so smooth and there are a ton of little details in there, like the designs of some of the moons, the little glow around Earth, Mars, and Titan to signify they have atmospheres, and the fact that Uranus (or at least his rings) is often animated to be tilted heavily to one side.

I love the story they’re telling and how they’re doing it. There’s a main story going on right now that I’m about 1/3 of the way through, but intermixed with that are shorter little one-off episodes that are almost like little “what ifs?” or “how comes?” (though some of those are starting to tie in to the main story).

It’s just fun, yo. I’m not having a great time right now and I don’t want to talk about it because people will be like “go see a counselor!” and I’ll be like “counseling is a scam!” and they’ll just get mad at me, so this is acting as an excellent little comfort show at the moment.

Okay, this is cute.

[Edit: this was originally published as two videos, but now they’ve put out a single one with the whole story, so I’ve replaced the originals with that one]

Personified planets doing stuff together? I’m into it!

I saw a small clip of this on TikTok and was intrigued, so I looked it up on YouTube. Turns out this is the most recent video of a whole big series about the planets. I gotta check them all out now.

Edit 2: yeah, this is my new obsession now.
