Blog 1880: Random Blog Survey
How long have you been blogging?
1,880 days. 5 years and a few extra weeks.
What made you start?
Peer pressure from my high school friends to get a MySpace. Haha, DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU’VE DONE?
Who inspired you?
No one.
About how many hours a week would you estimate you spend on your blog?
Depends on the week. I blog daily, but some weeks I actually make the effort to POST my blogs. Pathetic, I know, but what’re you going to do?
What kind of experience or background do you have with writing?
I’ve won a few writing awards and have had some poetry published, but other than that my experience has been just, well, writing. Plus some creative writing classes, ‘cause I find them extremely fun.
OH and fan fiction. Lots of it.
Talk about how you come up with blog topics; where do you get your ideas?
The crappy blogs originate from the mundane existence that is my life. The exciting blogs come from my hyperness, experiences with dorky band friends, or rants.
What or who inspires you and your blog?
PFFT, inspiration. Wing it, bitches.
Where and/or how do you do your brainstorming for your blog?
I’ve conditioned myself to think “would this make a good topic for a blog?” about nearly everything. Sad, isn’t it?
Do you have any blogging rules or guidelines you follow?
Just one: post daily. Unlike in almost every other situation, I believe in quantity over quality for the blog. Keeps things interesting and makes me consistently think about stuff to write about.
Is there anything you will not blog about?
Not really, no. If I have some intensely personal experience, I’ll post it either as “friends only” or “private.”
Do you have any sort of a publishing schedule in terms of day of week or topic?
Daily blogging. I need to be more consistent with actually posting my blogs, though. Preferably I should do this daily as well.
How many drafts of potential blog posts do you have right now?
Drafts? Silly blogger, drafts are for kids.
In what medium do you draft your posts?
I type them up in Microsoft Word before I actually post them, but that’s more of a security thing rather than a draft thing.
How often do you completely scratch or delete drafts or blog post ideas?
Maybe once a month or so.
If you had to leave your blog in your will to another blogger, who would you choose?
When I die, Le Seul Mot Juste dies.
Are there other blogs that you feel are similar to yours in content, style, or voice?
Oh, probably. I know there are a lot of daily bloggers out there, at least.
Has anything surprised you since you started blogging?
The fact that I’ve continued blogging. The fact that at least one person reads what I write. Thanks, Matt!
What are your goals or plans for your blog going forward?
I’m going to continue blogging daily at least until I finish my educational career. That’s set to occur in 2016 with the philosophy degrees, which makes the blog round out to a nice 10 years total.
Do you make any money from your blog, and, if so, about how much a month?
That would be nice, wouldn’t it?
What blogging system do you use?
WordPress. Recent convert from MySpace.
How did you come up with your blog name?
I don’t remember, actually. For whatever reason I stumbled across Flaubert’s le seul mot juste, or the idea of the “unique, right word” for writing and adopted the phrase for my blog.
How many blogs do you have, and what was your peak?
The old MySpace one is still up, so that and my WordPress one.
Are you having as much fun as when you started?
Hell yes. Blogging rules.
Where do you find other bloggers like you?
Probably in insane asylums.
What’s your one wish when it comes to blogging?
I’d like more readers, but we’d all like that, wouldn’t we?
TA-DA!
